My Sunday morning yoga class always ends with some pearls of wisdom from the instructor. Today it went like this:
Inside of me, there are two dogs, one evil and angry, and the other kind and loving. They constantly fight each other. When asked, “Which dog wins,?” I say, “The one I feed more.”
Personally, I feed pasta to my kind and loving dog. My evil and angry dog gets fast food, or processed food, full of preservative and pesticides. It makes him angrier. I try to starve my angry and evil dog, but alas, in America, this is hard to do.
In Italy, the dogs are much more kind and loving. And I’d imagine that on the island of Capri, all the dogs must be very much so. My friend Davide sent me a photo of his lunch on Capri last week: a slice of salmon, a little mozzarella di bufala, and a walnut. Clearly, he was feeding his kind and loving dog.

Sunday Pasta® Recipe: Spaghetti con Salmone, Noci e Mozzarella
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 4-6 1x
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 8 ounce smoked salmon, cut into strips
- 1/2 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 1 ball mozzarella di bufala, coarsly chopped
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the onion in the olive oil until golden. Add the walnuts. After about a minute, add the salmon and then the wine. Allow it to evaporate. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Meanwhile, cook the pasta until al dente. Drain, retaining some of the cooking water.
- Place the pasta in a large serving bowl. Mix in the salmon, with a little of the pasta water if it seems dry. Mix in the mozzarella.
- Serve immediately.
