About

Ciao! Sono Edwin Garrubbo! Italy and its food have always been my passion, my motivation, my sanctuary, and my joy. I feel lucky to have grown up in a family obsessed with food.  My Italian grandmothers taught me to cook, but more importantly, they showed me that food is the most basic way to spread love and to care for others.  I suppose that I’ve been brainwashed.  For me, All Roads lead to Rome (and from there, the rest of Italy!

I spend a lot of time thinking about, studying, chasing, sharing, and cooking food. My love affair with Italian food has only deepened with time because the more I learn about it, the more I see it’s genius. It’s affordable, healthy, uniting, comforting, and of course, delicious. I didn’t make this up, as thousands of years and collaboration created la cucina italiana, but I do see myself as a steward and ambassador for the cuisine.

On another level, food is also art. How and where is grown, cared for, prepared, and shared. The artistry of food presents itself at every level. As my grandfather said, our family motto is Ars Omni Vincit (Art Conquers All). I do believe that it does.

So welcome to Garrubbo Guide, my way of sharing my passion and all that I have learned about Italian travel, food, wine, and culture.

Benvenuti e Buon Appetito!

Our Mission

There are two adages that I believe with all my heart.  First: All Roads lead to Rome. Second: The way to the heart is through the stomach. From here, the logic is simple: The way to the heart is through Italian food.  My grandmother, Virginia Garrubbo, understood this more than anyone. She knew it consciously, and she knew it instinctively. She lived to cook. Cooking was her art. She is loved and remembered for her culinary expertise. This guide is dedicated to her, and to Italian grandmothers everywhere, who share their love through food.

The Garrubbo Guide (La Guida Garrubbo) is an expert guide to Italian food, wine, and culture. We are a community of people who are passionate about La Cucina Italiana. We provide the information and resources you need to find authentic Italian cooking, whether you are just discovering its magic or have been weaned on it since birth. Learning about Italian food should never stop. “Studiare sempre,” my nonno used to say — always study.

With our Sunday Pasta, we provide authentic pasta recipes and wine pairings. Some of the recipes come from family and friends, while others come from Italian chefs in Italy and around the world. With our directories of restaurants, markets, and wineries, we aim to promote the very best in authentic Italian cuisine.

We aim to take you on a gastronomic journey that is sure to become an obsession, one which will be passed on to future generations. This obsession has withstood the test of time. Why?  Because Italian food has the power to bring people together, rich and poor, family and friends, Italians and non-Italians; Italian food makes people forget themselves and escape into the experience — into the convivialitá, into the sharing. This magic is Italy’s gift to the world. We intend to promote and preserve this gift for generations to come.

I invite you to join us on the journey and to be part of our mission. Share recipes, tell stories, and recommend good restaurants, recount the memories that tie you to the past and take you to the future.

Benvenuti e Buon Appetito!
