Rating System

The Garrubbo Guide promotes authentic Italian ingredients and preparation, so all dining establishments are compared to the best in Italy. Our goal is not to criticize bad providers, but rather to promote the good, authentic ones. Many establishments outside of Italy have lost their authenticity, and therefore will not be in the guide.

The Garrubbo Guide rating scale is relative. Dining establishments are categorized by type. Therefore, an excellent Trattoria may receive a 7 within its category.  This does not mean that it is comparable to a Ristorante that receives a 7.  It means that they are both consistently achieving their goals. Some establishments may fall into more than one category.

Categories

R = Ristorante: Formal service and dining
T = Trattoria:  Casual service and dining
PN = Paninoteca: Mainly serves Panini
P = Pizzeria: Mainly serves Pizza
C = Caffé:  Focused on Espresso, Cappuccino
E = Enoteca: Wine bar
PA = Pasticceria: Pastries and Dessert
G = Gelateria: Gelato
M = Mercato: Italian Food Market

The Garrubbo Guide ranks dining establishments in two ways.

Editor Ratings: The Editors of The Garrubbo Guide will assign one star to an establishment in any category that offers authentic Italian quality. Exceptional restaurants will receive two stars, and in very rare cases, three stars.

Very Good – Authentic, Consistent (any category)
